Intellectual Property can be split into several headings, namely Patents, Trademarks, Designs and Copyrights. Copyright is the only one of these that does not have to be registered, except in the United States. In most of the rest of the world including countries that are signatories of the Berne Convention copyright protection covers your work by placing a © along with your name and the date at the foot of the work. Copyright protection means that no one else may copy or use the protected work without your express permission. Copyright protection is extremely important for people who express their ideas on paper (or the like) for a living. For example, authors, poets, artists and webmasters.

Good Day
Being a budding entrepreneur and artist (design, photography, writing) I need some information on a few matters.
I am looking to register my companies. Something with a set up like Barlow World. It has many divisions. Do I register my Holding Company (Which I assume the case to be in Barlow World), and then register the divisions.
Regarding trademarks, do I register the logo after I have registered the holding co.?
If my logo for the holding company will have the same look and feel as the logo for the divisions, although the colours might differ, will I have to take out more than one trademark?
Is it enough to just copyright my IP, designs and logo’s? If so, what process do you follow to ensure that the copyrights on my work is legit.
Also, with regard to legal agreements, relating to client information, Contracts between freelance workers and part-time employees and that of my PI, what forms will be needed in the administration service industry?
I do hope that you can assist as I have approached many companies regarding this matter, and I would like to place my website live but feel that I need to find out what the legalities are first.
Perhaps I can make an appointment with a consultant in the East Rand Area?
